New Tomtom Gps For Sale
Amazon.com: tomtom 3rd edition gps The Third Edition ONE has a silver border with the name TomTom in the lower center in black type. That is the easiest way to tell them apart. The 3rd Edition is already shipping in Europe, and should be arriving in the USA sometime in September with a MSRP price of $249. TomTom ONE 3rd Edition GPS Review. TomTom's 3rd edition update to the world's bestselling (as of this writing, 8/30/08) portable navigation device features an updated chipset that provides better satellite lock and TomTom's new MapShare technology that lets you add your own map corrections and points of interest, then upload your corrections to and download other corrections from millions of other TomTom.

We understand your disappointment that Advanced & Itinerary Planning options are not available with the ONE 3rd Edition programming. Expanding our programming to meet the needs of our customers is very important to us. It is feedback like yours that allows us to make TomTom the best navigation system it can be. Thank you for taking the time to advise us that you would like these options to be added.'
So, they didn't really answer the question. Therefore, does anyone know if they have any plans of adding IP to the 3rd edition? I would prefer not to rely on the 'hack' as I have a feeling TT will eventually find a workaround to take this away.
Or, should I just go with the XL, which has everything I need/want right now without having to rely on a hack. Again, I really like the idea of setting up my route the night before a trip and being able to customize it using via points.

- Going with the XL also gives you a widescreen. While during navigation the widescreen doesn't provide a ton more information on the screen, it does make each key on the virtual keyboard a little bigger which can help reduce errors entering in data.
I suspect that the hack might continue to work for awhile, and TomTom may not be interested in blocking that feature from the tiny minority of people who might employ it. Obviously I can't speak for them, but 99% of users are not going to know about that trick, out of the 1% that do, not all of those will turn it on.I doubt TomTom would spend much time disabling the feature for the tiny percentage of people that are using it. But I suppose anything is possible. - I find that that lack of Itinary planning is not as serious as the lack of SD card.
Well, the GPS manufacturers are doing anything to gain market including low blows. Unfortunately we customers also pay the price.
I think TomTom design the TomTom One lines as Garmin killers, with price so low that customers find hard to refuse.
We should keep informed before we buy. - TomTom doesn't consider it a hack. It's a customization, and applying it will not void the warranty. They are very open about SDK and the ability to expand their units beyond what they are officially released to do. They even have PDFs on their site explaining how to customize menus and such. They built the ability to customize menus into nearly all of their units.
Itinerary Planning is also built into all ONE units. It's just there's no menu item linking directly to it on the 3rd. To add the menu item, follow these instructions: http://www.gpsreview.net/forums/discussion/2707/x/p1/ (shouldn't take more than 5 minutes). It's also easily reversible (just delete the SDKRegistry directory or do a system reset). - You can make menu easily by this program.
By the way I heard that a new update just out will give you back that option. Have no 3rd edition to try, sorry. :D - Do you know where we can find that update? I would love to have itinerary planning without sacrificing version 7 menu items (seems nobody knows the new version 7 menu code yet, I've been spending a few minutes guessing and checking with no luck).
For the time being, menu mods will work, but hopefully TomTom releases an updated SDK manual with the new menu codes, or releases an update that allows for the best of both worlds.
Can you point me to those PDFs and other geek stuff on the TomTom web site (or other places)? I looked and didn't find anything that looked like internal documentation. Even the manual is pretty skimpy.TomTom doesn't consider it a hack. It's a customization, and applying it will not void the warranty. They are very open about SDK and the ability to expand their units beyond what they are officially released to do. They even have PDFs on their site explaining how to customize menus and such.
I'd like to try the 'Itinerary' modification, but I'd like to know a little more about what I'm actually doing before making such a change.- Run TomTom Home.
Once finished don't forget to click 'Device' , disconnect. Check again the 'Safely remove hardware' in windows. Wait if TomTom tries to reboot, don't kill the power button while it's rebooting !!! - I just updated via TomTom Home. No itinerary planning has been added yet :(
- Create your custom menu with this program.
Create a folder named sdkregistry in the root directory & put the menu in there.
When you want the original menu back, delete or rename the custom menu.
You chose a wrong TomTom for what you want (Itinary Planning). - In my estimation I chose the right one... @129.99 =)

I unzipped the installation zip file to this directory. However when I use the HOME software to install from my computer it cannot find anything to install. Is there a sub-directory I need to put below this path? Or is the version the problem? I have been unable to find 7.166 which I believe is the most recent version 7 for this edition.
Help would be appreciated. Thanks - I'm trying to get Itinerary Planning working before the weekend.

- The application is not installed on the computer, it's installed on the unit itself.
I'm unclear what you want. Do you wish the latest application for the unit? If so, just connect the unit to Home 2 and select 'update my unit'. If there is a newer application than the one installed already, it should offer the newer application that should be installed directly on the unit.
Then disconnect the unit properly from Home using the Device Disconnect icon on Home's screen.
If you want an older application, what precise version do you want and WHY do you want it?
If your model IS a UK One 3rd edition, it doesn't do Itinerary Planning.
Go to this link:
http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9521/kw/serial number/sno/1
and enter your first 2 characters of your serial number -- found on the bottom of the unit -- into the space provided to see what model tom tom 'thinks' you have. - Hi dnh - thanks for taking the trouble to reply. Sorry, I should have included a link to the original post.

I am following the instructions here to modify the menu to bring back the itiniary planning menu as described. However because the device has version 8 installed it hangs and reboots when we try to run it. I have tried to download the previous version of the TomTom NAV application (ie version 7) and manually install it as suggested, but the Home software cannot find the program to install it.
I just want to know a) where can I get version 7.166 and b) what is the FULL directory path on the pc that will ensure that the Home software can find it.
Thanks - 1. Make an Explorer, NOT Home, backup of your unit's contents.
2. Go here:
http://www.oldboy.me.uk/TomTomUpdates/index.html
and the 9th link is 7.166. Save it to your desktop or a temp folder on your COMPUTER.
3. Understand this: When Home 2 provides an application, it goes looking for it on ITS server, downloads it to your computer and stores the compressed file here:
C:Documents and Settings(yourname)My DocumentsTomTomHOMEDownloadscompleteprogram.
It then automatically extracts the contents to the unit using Home.
Well, what you are going to do is DIFFERENT
You are going to use WinRar to extract the contents of the 7.166 cab file from the location you saved it directly to the connected unit. (Home is NOT involved). Then, if you wish, you can copy the compressed file from your saved location to the folder I listed above (the program folder at the end of the path) - thanks dns - that has worked a treat! All set to go now. Just need to find out which file in my backup holds all my previous favourites (in an ideal world) and life is perfect.
Many thanks
A - The favourites will be in the mapsettings.cfg file found in the specific map folder on your backup.
Copy that to the specific map folder on the unit and they'll be restored.
Many people convert their favourites to a custom ov2 file that can be copied from map update to map update.
